Seahawks OT Sean Locklear Not at OTAs
By admin
Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times reports that Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Sean Locklear was not present for the team's voluntary "Organized Team Activity" session, and that head coach Pete Carroll hadn't been told a reason for the absence.
It's important to note that workouts are voluntary, and just because the head coach hasn't been told the specific reason why, does not necessarily mean that a reason hasn't communicated to the coaching staff.
One potential reason for Locklear's absence that can be crossed off the list is a dissatisfaction with his contract.
By playing left tackle in 2009, Locklear, who has moved back to the right tackle with the arrival of first-round pick Russell Okung, triggered a $600,000 increase to his base salary in 2010. Locklear will now earn $5.45 million dollars, the third-highest among all offensive tackles, right or left.
UPDATE: Locklear is the Celebrity Chair for the 2010 Drive for Dreams Golf Classic, which is being held today at Newcastle Country Club. (Thanks to @AllSeahawks for the head's up) The original dates that the Seahawks put out for their OTA sessions had them holding these voluntary workouts on Tuesday and Thursday of each week, but that has since been modified to Monday and Wednesdays, which would explain why Locklear had committed to a charitable function on the same day of a workout.
