Texans Sign 4th Round LB Darryl Sharpton

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports the Houston Texans have signed fourth-round linebacker Darryl Sharpton.

According to Florio, Sharpton received a $534,940 signing bonus, making the base value of the four-year deal $2.324 million dollars.

The 102nd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft out of the "U", Sharpton was a part-time his first two seasons in Coral Cables before entering the starting lineup on a full-time basis as a junior. In 52 career games, including 33 starts, Sharpton totaled 262 tackles, including 24.5 for a loss and 2.5 quarterback sacks. The 6-0, 226-pound Sharpton added an interception during his senior season, returning it 73 yards for a touchdown.

Sharpton earned second-team All-ACC honors after the 2009 season.

With the Texans, Sharpton is expected to be a core member of the special teams units, and could push for playing time at inside linebacker.

Sharpton is the fourth of the Texans' nine-member 2010 draft class to sign a contract, joining sixth-round wide receiver Trindon Holliday, fifth-round cornerback Sherrick McManis, and third-round defensive tackle Earl Mitchell.
