Upset With Contract, Jets CB Darrelle Revis Skipping OTAs

Though he's made little secret of his desire to be the NFL's highest-paid cornerback, New York Jets All-Pro Darrelle Revis had been taking a laissez-faire approach to his contract situation, going so far as to downplay reports that he's seeking $20 million dollars per season.

"I don't know where the $20 million came from," Revis told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News last month. "I'm sure it's not going to be up in that area. That's insane. That'd be great. Who wouldn't want $20 million? That's a high price. I just want to make it as positive as I can. I don't want it to get messy. And just try to do it the right way.

"If the numbers are right and everything looks good, I'll sign on the dotted line," Revis said of the Jets' initial contract proposal. "If not--if we have to negotiate more--that's something we have to do."

Today, Mehta reports that Revis is skipping the team's "Organized Team Activity" sessions because he is unhappy with his contract situation.

The Jets only have two more voluntary OTA sessions remaining (June 8, June 10), and it wouldn't be surprising to see Revis use those dates as another opportunity to express his displeasure with his current contract. If Revis skips the team's mandatory mini-camp from June 14-16, as well, one wonders whether or not this issue will be the major storyline of HBO's "Hard Knocks" series.
