Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who is African-American, has interviewed for several head coaching vacancies over the last few off-seasons. Despite having a track record of success as a defensive coordinator, Frazier has failed to land a head coaching position, leading many to believe that his interviews are done primarily to comply with the "The Rooney Rule", which requires teams to interview a minority candidate.

Frazier interviewed for two jobs in January, and tells John Shipley of the Pioneer Press that he doesn't feel right about one of them.

"With those interviews that I was in back in January, I went into them with the best intentions, based on advice I got from key people, and just tried to approach it the right way," Frazier said. "Now, I can't answer for ownership, you know, what they were looking for and what they wanted out of the interviews. But I went into it believing each one would be a legitimate interview.

"I don't want to say which team, but one of them I was a little concerned about, and we went right down to the wire about whether I should even do the interview," he said. "On one of them, I left just wondering."

It's commendable that Frazier didn't name names, but it's obvious that the interview Frazier doesn't feel good about was the one he had with the Seattle Seahawks.

After firing Jim Mora, the Seahawks put in a request to interview Frazier, which was initially denied before one was scheduled for Saturday, January 9. Though the interview last nearly five hours, and has since been signed off by the NFL and the Fritz Pollard Alliance, multiple reports at the time were that Seahawks had already agreed in principle on a $7 million per year contract with USC head coach Pete Carroll.

Frazier's frustration with the situation is certainly understandable, but while it was obvious that the Seahawks were intent on hiring Carroll, Frazier would most likely be the current head coach of the Seattle Seahawks had Tony Dungy been interested in becoming that team's president in December.
