I don't know. I'm thinking the Packers will get killed this coming Saturday against the 49s. The Packer defense will have to be outstanding against the 49er offense, especially against Mccaffrey. I still don't trust the Packer defense. I still remember how easily Dallas seemed to pass and run for 16 points in the last half of the fourth quarter. Yeh, yeh, I know, LaFleur said he made a mistake pulling too many of his starters in the fourth quarter. Still. . .

There have been times GB has limited the run, controlled a mobile QB, and not collapsed on pass defense. Obviously that is not Barry ball, and I think it's obvious that somebody other than JB was involved. They're playing their best they have all season, and can use every speck of improvement they can squeeze out of tomorrow. If they all give 100% effort I can enjoy it immensely regardless of the outcome, but I do hope to see at least a reasonable scheme on D, as well as continued brilliance from MLF on O. Lately they've started defensive plays with a zone scheme that has morphed into man coverage as the play develops. I'm not sure if that's ideal against SF, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. It also makes me wonder about drafting a hybrid DB / LB they've been talking about, and how that would work ...

I was ready for some Mike Wahle!

Two main questions:

1) all the recent losses to SF have, to my eye, been won and lost in the weight room. They just beat up GB. So when I saw somebody else more knowledgeable than I am say that GB strength and conditioning staff has been bad for years that seemed reasonable to me, but you say they're as good as anyone in the league.

Maybe you fix that by drafting? I saw that one person did over 40 reps on bench at the combine, and they weren't even a lineman; obviously NFL coaching had nothing to do with that. This comes to a head tomorrow, and I'm thinking playing in the rain makes this a bigger issue.(?)

2) GB O line has been at the forefront of the turnaround this season. Part of that has been learning the playbook, and gelling as a unit. Part of that has been simply winning their one on one matchups, which was most noticeable to me in KC in terms of a sudden, drastic improvement.

Who made the difference? Is it somebody on staff? Did they all go out and hire a specialist they've worked with? I'd love to know but more than that, I hope to see the trend continue tomorrow, this has become a really fun team.

I am similarly at a loss to explain the improvement in both lines. I thought they needed personnel upgrades to improve (and maybe they still do) but the improvement so far has come from the guys who already were getting the snaps. [I think the light came on for Rasheed Walker.]

I don't remember where, but Wahle mentioned that some guys who get 2nd contracts decide they are pass rushers and don't want to play the run anymore (do the dirty work). I have thought that about Clark for 3 or 4 years. (Clark is much better in the playoffs because he plays the run hard then.) I think Wyatt might have this disease.

Maybe it is the level of the opponent, but Detroit and Dallas had good offensive lines. Saturday will be interesting.
