5 Takeaways From Packers 28 - 21 Bears: Keisean Nixon Shows Resilience
Nixon bounced back from some tough penalties to seal a crucial win for the Packers

Keisean Nixon shows resilience
It was a tough first half for Nixon, who basically helped the Bears score 3 points almost exclusively due to two penalties he committed on the same drive.
A vocal section of the fanbase is always ready to pounce on Nixon every time he dares to give up a pass, and the dissenters were out in full force after the pair of flags, although one of them was extremely harsh after an official saw him swat away Luther Burden’s hand, but did not see Burden grabbing Nixon’s throat.
In coverage though, Nixon had a solid game overall, despite barely missing an interception as Caleb Williams improbably found a receiver in the end zone for a touchdown, and had the last laugh as he picked off the Bears QB to end the game, deviating from his original assignment to save the day.
It will never be enough for some, but Nixon is having a good year and showed his toughness to overcome adversity on Sunday.
Don’t blitz Jordan Love
Teams incapable of getting pressure with four are going to be in for a long day against the Packers, as Love continues to absolutely dice up opposing defenses when they blitz.
According to PFF, Love went nine of 12 for 171 yards and three touchdowns against Chicago when they sent extra rushers, and is their highest graded quarterback against the blitz in 2025.
He is also their 2nd highest graded QB when kept clean, as Green Bay’s offensive line was able to do for most of the day on Sunday, even when the Bears did send pressure.
Preventing Love from picking defenses apart is becoming a more and more difficult task, and the Packers offense is extremely potent because of it.
Packers’ pass catching depth shines
There were real reasons for concern over the Packers offense after they put up a combined 20 points against the Panthers and Eagles defenses, and they looked legitimately lost after Tucker Kraft went down with an ACL injury.
Fast forward a month and they have well and truly found their groove again, leaning more into the downfield pass game after the return of Christian Watson, who was once again incredible on Sunday, and more help has now arrived.
Jayden Reed looked as smooth as ever in his return to the playing field and should help restore the team’s ability to generate yards after the catch.
Luke Musgrave is providing value as a downfield threat in Kraft’s absence, and even cornerback/receiver hybrid Bo Melton is chipping in, catching a 45-yard touchdown pass versus Chicago.
Green Bay did not even need Dontayvion Wicks or Matthew Golden to catch a pass this week, as both work through injuries of their own. When they are back up to full speed, the Packers could boast a scary passing attack.
Defensive line shaky in second half
Losing Devonte Wyatt for the year was a real blow to the interior of Green Bay’s defensive line, and up against one of the better offensive lines in the league, the Packers were outmuscled at times.
The four worst defensive grades at PFF for the Packers this week were Karl Brooks, Colby Wooden, Warren Brinson and newly signed Jordon Riley at the bottom. Those were their four defensive tackles on Sunday.
They will probably look more steady against lesser offensive lines, but there is work to do to avoid teams running all over them as the Bears did in the second half.
Kingsley Enagbare making plays
Nixon’s 4th and 1 interception does not happen if Enagbare doesn’t make an incredible play to stuff a 3rd and 1 run short of the line to gain on the previous play.
Further removed from a knee injury which seemed to hamper him throughout 2024, Enagbare is back to playing a valuable role in Green Bay’s defense.
He is not a game changing pass rusher, but is a solid contributor in both phases, being credited with three run stops on Sunday, including on the penultimate defensive play. The Packers defense is better for having Enagbare involved.

1. Nixon is becoming a cinderella story
2. Love - It only works with excellent OL protection
3. The packers have a scary passing attack
"They only need to hang onto the ball."
4. Shaky or drained from being on the field too long.
Time Possession said it all. The defense needed a rest.
5. Valuable Role - I just don't see him that way.
penultimate? What college dictionary are you using.

"Penultimate" means second-to-last. He used the word perfectly.

Yes, Mark had wrote a good article punctuated with "penultimate".
If the Packers and the bares meet after the season in the playoffs, may it be the penultimate game the Packers again win before earning the Lombardi.

I could go for a plentitude (or plethora) of properly-placed "penultimates".

"Jayden Reed looked as smooth as ever"
Yes he does. Now, I really like Love, but when I think of smooth...I think of Willis and Reed. They are some fast twitch athletes fo sho!
Now, Pack...get serious about the Broncos. No horsing around...start fast and finish even faster, like Seabiscuit!

Are you sure you didn't actually mean Secretariat whose record setting Belmont Stakes win by 31 lengths had him going faster every quarter mile throughout the race - continuous accelerato for a mile and a half?

Notice that the first time #11 was tackled, the tackler just had to thoroughly test his shoulders. Just to make sure the warranty was valid, I guess. So thoughtful and courteous, that was.

I am certain LaFleur enjoyed beating Big Mr. Johnson (he is 6"1"...LaFleur is 5'11"). The post game "handshake" was as warm as the turf on Lambeau Field and just as frosty.
But Ben did give Matt valuable advice about the OL. Get the best O Linemen money can buy and the draft can provide. Practice the best 5 together and play them as a group from day one until the last snap of the season, as health allows.
Gutey and Policy should be impressed how the bares completely remade the OL with 5 new guys in the offseason. The LT is a rookie, but other 4 were proven FA vets in their prime. They put them together in camp and coached them up.
Packers hopefully have the OL put together now (delayed for a variety of reasons including injury and experimentation).
Is the Packers OL finally coming together? The 4 game win streak has coincided with the Offense averaging 27 points during those "dubs".
My view? Tom is excellent...4 more like him you go into any game the favorite. Walker is consistently solid. Banks is looking like he will be. Rhyan is better at Center than Guard. Belton is raw. He should have been at RG in July...at least he is now. it might work.
The bares OL has been working well together since the Spring.

Right tackle Darnell Wright was the Bears’ first rounder in 2023, but the idea is sound. Build up the O-line and get them working to build cohesion. Very hard to have a great offense with a crap line. And the way the franchise QB’s are paid today makes the offensive line a needed investment.

I agree with much of what you listed there. The Bears are a much better team than we as fans have been used to seeing. Up until this game I was of the opinion that they had a softer schedule and they've been winning some close ones. There's something to take serious about them for a change.
Regarding the way they went after their o-line though, it seems like they didn't do it until they finally realized how badly they screwed up the year before. They had their young quarterback with Williams and they first went out and tried to get him a bunch of receiving weapons and that just did not go all that well. For sure, this last year they woke up and went out and gathered up some much much needed protection for him. It didn't seem like a plan as much as it seemed like a reaction to a previous bad plan and it is working out like a happy accident.
But it is now working for them. I'll give them that. In most games they run well and they protect their QB much better than the year prior and he is developing much better now with the chances to stay upright.

da Bares still suck.
It's just that now they suck because they win enough to be in contention to win the division. If they win their easy game this week and GB loses their hard game, the rematch in Soldier Field will be the exact same situation re: the record; hopefully a very different game, that was WAY too close for comfort!

Love and Rhyan are really calling great pass pro and blitz response. In the past, I've wondered about Love's coolness-under-pressure--consider me corrected!

Glad for the W. Da Bears are much better. Right now Williams looks like a young Russel Wilson, imo.
Takeaway is that while there were some great play calls MLF about screwed up (again) with not controlling the ball coming out of the half. The conversion % stat for 3rd & long is a talking point. If he loves running the ball GB has the two RB’s for setting up his loved play action. 3 carries for E. Wilson?? This is the season to do it.
It’s also been pointed out Caleb like rolling right. Hope our D can take advantage of that in Chicago.

I have had my reservations about Love. I never said he was going to be good or not. I decided just to wait and see. Right now I am saying he is an above average to very good QB. If he can be a little more consistent he will be entering into the Favre and Rodgers level and he will be the third QB in a row that will make us contenders and possibly win a SB or two.
This game is a very good win because the Packers overcame the bad calls. I have always said there are going to be bad calls in the game. Championship teams overcome bad calls and find ways to win.
I was watching the grandkids so I did miss some of the game but I saw Parsons rushing behind Williams and Williams stepping up and running the ball for good gains. He is getting paid way too much to make that mistake.

JL10 can be the franchise QB without being either #4 or 12.

Much of the Favre mystique was built around his moxie and longevity.
He came into his own at just the right time.
I think Favre might struggle to have that kind of longevity in today's concussion and TO-averse NFL.

"Green Bay did not even need Dontayvion Wicks or Matthew Golden to catch a pass this week,"
...nor Romeo Doubs, for that matter (although they could've easily called DPI on one of his two targets). It's becoming increasingly clear that #87 will be playing elsewhere in 2026. Hopefully not Chicago or Detroit.
