Andy suggests how we Invest (in the draft), and adding up where he wants draft picks, he suggests 1x backup QB, 2x O linemen, Ix WR, 1x TE, 1x IDL, 1xDE/Edge, 1x ILB, 2x CB, 1x KR/PR. That's 11 picks. The Packers have just 8 picks - and three of them are 7th rounders.
11 into 8 doesn't go, so some of these positions cannot be filled in the draft (unless you trade down and I don't expect much of that this year).........and I didn't even include adding a kicker, as they will likely be a UDFA.
Three of the four picks, backup QB, blocking TE, ILB, KR/PR, are probably among the more likely 7th round picks, leaving the other as a UDFA pickup. I expect IDL and CB to be the day 2 draft picks. That leaves rounds 4,5,6. Use them for an edge (it's a good year for draft depth there), a second CB and an O lineman.
What does that leave. No room for a WR in the draft, no second O lineman. Since the Packers cannot get everything they need in the draft. They will have to make some additions of veterans, or keep players they would rather move on from. I'm guessing they make one larger-sized veteran contract and several smaller ones to fill out the roster, along with whatever other UDFAs they pick up, as all teams do.
What this doesn't cover is the young players already on the roster that improve through camp and preseason, players like Glover, Monk, D.Jennings, Hadden, Ridder, Hopper, Stackhouse, Brinson, Melton, to name some that just might make a jump and fill a spot, which frees up needing a vet addition there, or a draft pick.
All of this is doable, but it needs hitting on most draft picks and vet additions, and as we have seen that is very hard to do, especially as half of their 8 picks are 6th and 7th rounders. There WILL be holes, every team has them. You just have to hope they do not impact the team too much as a whole - and the end result is an overall stronger team in 2026.
