I'd say give the CB group good. Rollins was exceptional. The willingness to tackle. The ability to locate the ball in the air. I can understand why you chose Gunter over Rollins since 1 actually created a TO, but the covering ability of Rollins is something we all should be extremely excited about.

The two things that got me really excited about Rollins' performance last night were: 1.) He's only played 1 year of high level football and seems to have that prodigious gene where his learning curve and development is accelerated. And 2.) He had fantastic instincts. Even on balls that weren't thrown to him like on Bradford's sack on 4th and 3, he didn't just trail his receiver, he made sure to get over the top and really deny the QB from throwing it his direction.

And even on passes that were completed on him, most of the time he was right there and just half a step/half a second away from breaking it up.

Jimmy Garapolo was terrible and underthrew it badly at least three times.

True. But Rollins was with that WR step-by-step to contest even the best of throws. I don't want to say he mirrored anyone, but man, he looks fluid.

It drove me crazy with the Patriot announcers on the NFLN broadcast, when JG underthrew the receiver and Rollins almost intercepted it (twice). They kept saying, "the receiver's totally got the DB beat, Jimmy G just needs to throw it farther." Rollins was with that guy step for step.

I found most annoying the ad for Goodwill that covered down and distance information - this was on the Milwaukee local feed on Channel 4.

It was nice for me to watch it on local 27 from Madison.

Justin Perillo got hung out to dry but Tolzien lead him right into the D-back. Hanging the ball over the middle is hard to get receivers to catch and he caught it like a boss.

I was impressed.

I like Perillo and Rollins as honorable "good" mentions. Bradford and Miles White in honorable "bad" mentions. UGLY was certainly nailed as short yardage continues to be a huge issue. Damn near 200 yards for the 1st string offense and only 3 points to show for it was very freaking ugly!! Punch it in goodness sake, that crap will come back to bite you like that one time....

Didn't get to see the game but Datone's stat line looked encouraging. Did he look good in action?

Shoutout to Jake Ryan too. He looks comfortable no matter where he's lined up. Nice instincts as well.

I'm also proud of Tolzien. He looks totally different compared to last preseason.

I don't like the jackets with the "Yellow streak" down the backs? If it looked more "gold-ish" I could live with it but it looks like the Packers have a yellow streak down their backs? The team may be doing the "boy named sue" thing to toughen them up?

The team looked good and the rookies made me feel more confident for our upcoming season. Good job kids!

A yellow streak down their back is better than one running down the leg or them having yellow bellies.

I saw a lot more good then bad last night from everyone.

The bad I think will be worked out before the season starts.

I will break the rules and put Tolzien & Hundley, Gunter & Rollins, and Jake Ryan all in the good. I could put a lot more players in this category.

The bad I agree with what you have.

The ugly. Definitely Redzone offense for the starters. It came last year in 2 games, and cost them a chance to go to the super bowl. Since its just the first preseason game, I am not to concerned, but if it continues they are going to have to figure something out.

I beleive what Thompson Twins said: Maybe you shoudl add 3twice as many players to lists during preseason.

I really did enjoy watching the game- I have not enjoyed watching many preseason games over the last few years.

Ben's Weekly Dix Report.

Dix performance wasn't just bad, it was expectedly ugly.

He was involved in 3 plays.

1st he miss a tackle he should have made, a fairly easy tackle he needs to make.

2nd he was late in coverage over the top allowing a completion.

3rd he took a horrible angle, got caught up in the wash and allowed a huge run.

Pretty much a perfect display of the deficiencies in his game that i've been informing you about. I've been harping on Dix's bad angles to the ball the how that is going to cost the packers a lot of big runs. Harping about his open field tackling. Harping about his coverage over the top. He looks the part and isn't bad in man to man coverage and can bring the wood a bit if he's able to line somebody up. But as long as he's starting, FS will be one of the few weakness on the team.

Dix - F

Gunter - A (aware and physical)

Rollins - A (so smooth, sticky, and consistent. looks like a 6 year vet)

Ryan - C (2 plays behind the line of scrimmage he wasn't blocked, did look "comfortable", but also fairly hawkesk.)

Pennel - A (flashed 2 great plays. not good but great. 1 he beat a straight double teams and still made the tackle in the backfield. The other play, the other 10 packers could have taken the play off. He single handedly shut down the run to the left.)

Morgan Burnett - B+ (wasn't out there long, but made an incredible play. When lined-up 15 yards from scrimmage, he read and reacted instantly closing a 15 yard gap for a 3 yard gain with an all-pro tackle.)

Hundley - A (all I had to see was that 20 yard touch pass he floated to his right cross-field to montgomery)

Montgomery - D (didn't flash returning the ball. Janis, Cobb, and Hyde are probably all better returners. He doesn't have a clue where he is on the field and has to make some effort to keep his feet in bounds.)

Geez, Ben, pretty good post. I agree on all counts except Montgomery, (though I agree with you that he should have caught Hundley's pass in bounds) who otherwise looked pretty good, if a little conservative.

Due to my travels I was unable to see game, but I've seen the scoring plays and have read a lot of positive posts and comments. I have seen nothing about injuries so I am assuming that the Packers did not suffer any major injuries which is great. Go Pack! Thanks, Since '61

Shocked Nagler is so comfortable with Tolzien. Your not an NFL #2 QB if you cannot throw a deep out.

Not arguing anyone either, just the facts. All that said, he's an excellent 3, and he will make one, once Hundley takes his necessary steps, which he will.

Hundley's 3 years away, but the outlines are already visible. Got to feel for Blanchard. I thought the Pack might showcase him. Maybe they will before the preseason's over.

I don't think Tolzein has any issues with arm strength.

Are you concerned about his accuracy?

Having seen the way he can push a ball down field, I would assume he could toss a pretty good frozen rope to the boundary if needed.

One of the better preseason games I have watched. Ginger wolverine had some short punts....I'm not sure if that was intentional so they could evaluate special teams, but he didn't punt it very far a couple of times.

On that first Vine clip with Rollins vs Boyce

Did Rollins have Safety help? If not, a better throw would bring a tad bit of concern.

That's a great article. Thanks Drealyn for the link. Loved the vines of Rollins' plays. On the one with Boyce, I think Rollins maintains pretty good position, but the obvious grab might be okay against Boyce, but I wouldn't recommend doing it against a big name receiver for fear of a penalty.
