The Packers continued tinkering with the back end of the roster on Tuesday, claiming cornerback M.J. Devonshire and tight end Luke Lachey off waivers.
Devonshire arrives with a bit of NFL nomad status already attached, having spent time with the Raiders, Panthers, Ravens and most recently the Bills since entering the league as a seventh-round pick in 2024. He has yet to appear in a regular season game, but the Packers clearly see something worth exploring in a cornerback in need of capable bodies.
Lachey is perhaps the more intriguing addition, if only because of the position. Tight end has questions about long-term roles at the back end of that room and bringing in a young developmental option makes sense. The former Texans seventh-rounder spent all of last season on Houston’s practice squad.
No, these aren’t headline-grabbing moves. But this is how roster building works. It will be interesting to see how much of a shot these two get throughout the summer.

Riverboat Gute. Never content. A man obsessed with churning the bottom of the roster. The search for the missing pieces. No stone unturned. His sleep is fitful when he sleeps at all. Tossing. Legs twitching. In that hazy state between asleep and awake, Jack Vanisi and Red Cochran fade, then pulse, pushing a giant round stone up a hill. Gute sits up, lights a Camel filter, walks to the screen porch and stares into the darkness that is Ashwaubenon.
It's a burden only one man can carry. He knows it's his job alone to make the Packers better. Others know the glory, but he knows the loneliness. The weight of a community. A state. A fandom. "No rest for the relentless," he mumbles as he lies on his side. Another power nap, and it's back to work for Brian Willis Gutekunst.

Maybe GB thinks Lachey is a better blocker than he really is. At Iowa, pass catchers don't play unless they can block, and even though Lachey isn't regarded as a good blocker, he did find his way onto the field for the Hawkeyes. He is certainly big enough to block @ 6'6 250lbs. He has great hands but is not overly fast. Maybe he became a better blocker in Houston last year. I guess we will see.
A CB too. Keep working it Gutey, upgrade the few holes we have left. How about Jadeveon Clowney @ Edge?
Or a trade with Dallas for a great blocking TE in Luke Schoonmaker?

This should guarantee a Super Bowl. I just saw the first Mock Draft for 2027. I guess it's hard to come up with stuff to write about this time of year. Who knows, maybe Lachey will surprise.

Camp fodder but one or both of them may surprise and make the team. The more bodies the Packers can look at during TC the better. Thanks, Since '61

So no risk - possible return(s) - on a free trial basis.
I kinda liked Lachey in the 2025 draft.

So did the ravens.
They praised him for catching everything.
What happened ?

He was drafted by the Texans. At Iowa he caught everything, which was really tough because they have had terrible QBs for 10 years. Everything Lachey accomplished he did on his own. 2023 was a lost year with surgery on his ankle. 2024 was a comeback year but as I said, Iowa's QB play was bad so Lachey can be much better. Texans had a really strong TE room so he didn't play at all. Maybe he can become a Charlie Kolar type for GB.

We know that the Packers - after Kraft - do not have a strong TE room. So a legitimate 53 man or PS candidate.

He changed his name to Isaiah Likely and signed as a Free Agent with the Giants after four years with the Crows as a receiving TE, scoring 15 TDs.
