Packers Game 16 Recap l Vikings 27 Packers 25

The Packers fall to the Vikings.  

The Green Bay Packers stagnant offense woke up too late and could not complete the comeback losing to the division rival Minnesota Vikings 27-25 bringing their NFC North record to 1-4. QB Jordan Love had one his roughest games as a starter finishing 19/30 with 185 YDS (45 at halftime) and 1 TD. RB Josh Jacobs finished with 69 YDS rushing on 17 carries with 1 TD and a fumble. WR Romeo Doubs lead the team with 7 receptions for 58 YDS as untimely offensive penalties were a theme through out the game. Rookies S Javon Bullard and LB Edgerrin Cooper lead the team with 11 tackles. In case you missed it, here is the recap: 

Packers won the toss and chose to receive. Starting at their own 30, QB Love was able to connect with WR Dontayvion Wicks on back to back completions moving the chains. RB Jacobs was able to run his way into MIN territory, but on second-and-4 had the ball knocked out and recovered by DT Jerry Tillery at the MIN 38 for the GB turnover. LB Cooper tripped up RB Aaron Jones at the line saving a big open field run. The Packers secondary was able to lock down the MIN receivers as QB Sam Darnold threw an incompletion then a 2-yard completion with an all-pro tackle by S Xavier McKinney. GB survived the fumble forcing the MIN punt, but the Packers offense followed with QB Love throwing three straight incompletions. P Daniel Whelan punted a booming 50-yard kick from the GB 15 to the MIN 35 with 9:00 left in the first quarter.

CB Keisean Nixon made a defensive play in the end zone breaking up what would have been a touchdown catch by WR Jordan Addison. CB Nixon impacted the next play hitting QB Darnold out of the pocket forcing an incomplete pass. K Will Reichard missed a 57-yard field goal attempt coming up just short giving the Packers solid field position. RB Jacobs picked up 7 yards on third-and-3 starting to gain momentum with the run game. QB Love threw a screen to TE Tucker Kraft for an 18-yard gain tacking on an additional 15 yards for a MIN low block penalty. The Packers were able to put points on the board with a 22-yard field goal by K Brandon McManus GB 3 MIN 0 with 1:47 left in the first quarter. After picking up a 9-yard first down gain, the final play of the quarter was former GB player RB Jones getting stuffed at the line by DT T.J. Slaton.

Second Quarter: Packers 3 Vikings 0

The MIN offense was able to push into GB territory as QB Darnold completed a 13-yard pass to WR Addison. On second-and-8 at the GB 31, QB Darnold found a wide open WR Jalen Nailor for the touchdown. K Reichard made the extra point MIN 7 GB 3 with 11:52 left in the second quarter.

Packers faced an early third-and-1 at the GB 39, but RB Jacobs found an opening up the middle for a 13-yard gain into MIN territory. Defensive pass interference was called on CB Byron Murphy as he was all over the back of WR Reed bringing to the ball to the MIN 31. On fourth-and-2, WR Reed dropped a slant pass placed in the hands by QB Love for the GB turnover on downs.  QB Darnold overthrew WR Justin Jefferson but a questionable defensive pass interference was called on CB Nixon moving the ball to the GB 42. The Packers defensive line was not able to pressure QB Darnold giving him plenty of time in the pocket to complete to WR Nailor for a 16-yard gain. On third-and-goal at the GB 7, the Packers red zone defense clamped down shielding the end zone forcing an incompletion. K Reichard made a 25-yard field goal attempt MIN 10 GB 3 with 2:16 left in the second quarter. 

RB Jacobs picked up 3-yards on the ground to the GB 33 as the clock ticked down to the two minute warning. GB converted a third-and-1, but was called back after an illegal formation on WR Wicks. QB Love threw a questionable incompletion into double coverage resulting in an unfortunate GB punt leaving MIN with 1:16 left on the clock and three timeouts. Questionable clock management and a timely sack by DE Karl Brooks left MIN with 13 seconds left at the GB 49. Another completion to TE T.J. Hockenson for 12-yards setting up a 55-yard missed field goal attempt by K Reichard. However, an extremely questionable offsides penalty was called on LB Cooper giving MIN another attempt. The 50-yard kick was good MIN 13 GB 0 as time expired concluding the second half. 

Third Quarter: Vikings 13 Packers 3

The Vikings started the second half with the ball looking to increase their lead, but the Packers D continued to prevent the explosive plays. After DE Brooks had a deflection and S Bullard made a slick open field tackle, QB Darnold was able to complete another down the field first down pass with a 22-yard completion to WR Nailor. QB Darnold completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to WR Addison breaking free behind the GB secondary. K Reichard made the extra point MIN 20 GB 3 with 9:44 left in the third quarter. 

GB started at their own 40 after a short in the landing zone kickoff penalty. The Packers continued to plague themselves with stupid penalties after a too many men on the field penalty pushed back to second-and-11. QB Love threw an incompletion intended for WR Reed on third down resulting in another GB punt. On second-and-11 at the MIN 29, DE Aaron Mosby pressured QB Darnold into a throwing a bad pass that was intercepted by CB Carrington Valentine running then fumbling the ball recovered by DT Brooks at the MIN 16. The Packers were able to get into the end zone with a 2-yard run by RB Jacobs on second-and-goal. K McManus made the extra point MIN 20 GB 10 with 5:07 left in the third quarter.

QB Darnold continued to shred the GB defense utilizing RB Jones in the pass game with a couple of 13-yard gains setting up first-and-goal at the GB 7. After LB Cooper made a tackle for a 2-yard loss on RB Jones, QB Darnold threw a screen to RB Cam Akers who maneuvered his way in the end zone for the touchdown. K Reinchard made the extra point MIN 27 GB 10 with 51 seconds left in third quarter. The final play of the third quarter was a 5-yard completion from QB Love to WR Romeo Doubs on third-and-4 to the MIN 41.

Fourth Quarter: Vikings 27 Packers 10

The Packers were not able to move down field with another self inflicting illegal formation penalty negating a first down pick up. On third-and-13, QB Love got sacked for the 10-yard loss resulting in a GB punt. MIN moved down the field with a 37-yard completion to WR Jefferson. MIN settled for a 43-yard field goal attempt which was unsuccessful giving the Packers some life. Starting at their own 33, QB Love threw a 13-yard first down completion to WR Bo Melton. TE Kraft caught a 35-yard pass for the Packers biggest play of the game. On second-and-goal at the MIN 5, RB Emmanuel Wilson ran the ball in for the touchdown. QB Love completed the two point conversion to WR Doubs MIN 27 GB 18 with 6:12 left in the game.

After an offensive holding negated a WR Jefferson one-handed catch, the Packers defense was able to get a timely stop as the defensive line stepped up knocking QB Darnold out of rhythm throwing an incompletion on third-and-15. After MIN punted to the GB 38, QB Love completed an 18-yard pass to WR Doubs on third-and-7. QB Love completed to WR Wicks for an 18-yard gain setting up first-and-goal at the MIN 2. On second-and-goal, WR Malik Heath caught a 3-yard touchdown pass securing the ball for the catch. K McManus made the extra point MIN 27 GB 25 with 2:18 left in the fourth quarter.

The first play after the two minute warning was 2-yard loss with a big hit from DE Rashad Gary. The Vikings were able to convert on third-and-2 with QB Darnold completing a pass to a wide open RB Akers burning the Packers last timeout ending the game. Final score MIN 27 GB 25.

The Packers will play the Bears next Sunday for the last regular season game of the year at Lambeau Field.

This was an old fashion ass-kicking that the Packers received in MN. There appears that some players feel an entitlement and even false sense of their ability. This game should humble every player on the roster.
If you can't play any better than that....go play for the Bears!
Coaches seemed to be in LA-La Land, maybe thinking they could coast the remaining games.
I don't know why this team wasn't mentally ready, but they don't deserve to be in the playoffs....where's Jim Mora when you need him.

If we look at this game like were re-building.
Wouldn't it look more positive.?

After all in 2020 the Vikings took Jefferson.
We took Love.

Now if our Wrs could only catch like Jefferson and CD Lamb.
But then their not #1 choices either.

Some players seem to have an inflated feeling of their own abilities and entitlement. Every guy on the roster ought to be humbled by this game.
