Packers Practice Roundup: July 29, 2025

LVN has another good day.

Longest practice so far at 2hrs 7mins.  Demovsky

PARTICIPATION:

New injuries: RB MarShawn Lloyd (groin) WR Dontayvion Wicks (calf) WR Savion Williams also just walked off with a trainer during individual. PUP: WR Christian Watson (knee) DE Collin Oliver (hamstring) OL John Williams (back).  Hodkiewicz

The injury to MarShawn Lloyd was not related to the contact with Nate Hobbs. It was a non-contact injury prior to the contact per Brian Gutekunst. (Which is probably worse).  2) Brenton Cox is practicing so if there was an injury yesterday it wasn’t anything major.  Herman

Aaron Banks (back) went inside after warmups and hasn’t come back out. Might be a setback after he participated yesterday in 11-on-11 in what looked like a limited capacity.  Schneidman

PERSONNEL:

Starters including Elgton!!!

Love Jacobs Doubs - Reed - Golden Kraft

Walker - Morgan - Jenkins - Rhyan - Tom

LVN - Wyatt - Clark - Gary

McDuffie - Cooper Nixon - Bullard - Hobbs Williams - McKinney.  Herman {Herman was not one of the starting DBs, just to be clear.  TGR]

As has been the case all summer, the No. 1 secondary consisted of Keisean Nixon and Nate Hobbs at corner, Javon Bullard at safety, and Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams at safety. At this point, it seems Carrington Valentine will be the odd man out in the secondary competition.  2)  The No. 2s on Tuesday frequently consisted of Kamal Hadden and Valentine at corner, Kalen King in the slot, and Evan Williams and Zayne Anderson at safety.  3) Players on three or four of the special-teams units include linebackers Kristian Welch, Isaiah Simmons, Ty’Ron Hopper and defensive backs Zayne Anderson, Carrington Valentine and Javon Bullard and running back Chris Brooks.  Bill Huber

OFFENSE:

Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson with back to back nice runs, Jacobs’ was exceptionally well blocked up front on the right side behind Rhyan and Tom Tucker.  2) Another botched exchange this time with Clifford. Defense easily recovers.  [The center is center is not identified. TGR]  3) Another fumbled exchange. This time between Jennings and Willis. Herman

Matthew Golden gets major separation from Hobbs and Williams across the middle and turns it into a 60 yard TD. One of the biggest offensive plays of camp so far.  Hodkiewicz  [I have seen this play listed at 54 yards, 55, and 70 yards, depending on

Kraft with phenomenal pass pro on Brenton Cox which allowed Love to find Golden along the sideline for a nice pickup.  2) Chris Brooks just put his life on the line on a blitz pickup on Cox. Man does Brenton play with some pop and violence. All things considered Brooks did really well. Run by Brooks goes nowhere.   3)  Love steps up and delivers deep to Hardman on a deep crosser but he can’t come up with it. Nice sliding catch by Doubs from Love.  4)  Marques Eversoll looks over to me and says, Matthew Golden is a big play away from being the player of the day. Seconds later Golden wins on a deep corner route vs Hobbs for a 60 yard td and shows off his speed after the catch. Huge play!!! 5) Jordan Love another scramble. That’s 2!!!!   Herman

Love hit Hardman in the hands on a deep corner route, looked like he alligator armed it. Doubs also in the area, prolly looked weird to #6, goofy play.  2)  Golden “beat” CV on a little hitch, double move. Short completion. Almost impossible to stop in this drill. Valentine remains sticky, man. He’s tough. Eversoll

Jordan Love had a productive day, going 11-of-14 with one touchdown and one interception.  2) Omar Brown, an undrafted free agent last year who spent the season on Green Bay’s practice squad, grabbed his second pick of the summer when he intercepted by Malik Willis. Trey Hill gave up pressure, which might have impacted the throw.  Huber

DEFENSE:

Nazir Stackhouse continues to show up with an immediate pressure inside.  Herman

Lukas Van Ness with another strong showing in one on ones; this time vs Jordan Morgan. Jacob Monk also had an impressive set against a hard charging Kenny Clark.  2)  Colby Wooden break thru for a sack of Love who had to tuck and scramble.  3) Stackhouse with another sack in team tackle period. 4)  Warren Brinson busts through to stop offense on third and 1.     Hodkiewicz

1x1’s from Andy Herman

Great jam and coverage by Valentine on Golden. Maybe too good. Flag thrown.

Musgrave toasts Bullard

Reed with a sweet move and easy win vs King

Lock down coverage by Nixon on Doubs on a fade

Cornelius Johnson drops a dime after a gorgeous route on Micah Robinson

Junior shuts down Hardman

Kraft gets open beautifully on McKinney but drops an easy one deep

Heath complete vs Hobbs short

Shepherd beats Hadden

Musgrave beats Bullard again

Short to Fitzpatrick complete contested by Oladapo

Sam Brown overthrow

Doubs complete on a slant vs Nixon

Zayne Anderson pbu vs Swinson

Nice in route by Sims vs Williams. Dropped.

Golden on a bomb comes back to the ball and catches it perfectly with Valentine in coverage. So damn smooth from Golden. Huge play

Heath contested catch vs Hadden

Kraft wins inside on a slant vs McKinney. Catches this one.

Hobbs good coverage on Hardman incomplete. May have got away with a grab.

Sam Brown couldn’t find the ball w bo [Melton] in coverage

Musgrave had a good step on Bullard but overthrown deep.

Dunn step for step with Shepherd incomplete but needs to get his head turned

Valentine fantastic coverage on Golden. Golden catches a short one

Oladapo with good coverage on Fitzpatrick. May have been a drop

Incomplete to Doubs. Not a great throw

Swinson beats Baldwin

McKinney pbu vs Kraft.  Herman

[I would love some more detail from Andy Herman but things happen fast in practice.  TGR]

Lukas Van Ness with another strong showing in 1 on 1s. Beat Jordan Morgan at LT twice — once with an inside move and once around the edge. LVN 3-0 so far in the drill.  2)  Stackhouse with another sack in team tackle period.  3)  Brenton Cox is so damn powerful man. Just lowered the boom on a bull rush into Brooks’ pass pro to close pocket on Willis.  4)  Arron Mosby with a “sack” of Taylor Elgersma who gets first team snaps with the threes today. [I don't have the smallest notion of what getting "1st team snaps with the threes" means.  TGR]  5) Nazir Stackhouse came nearly flat free up middle for a sack.  Hodkiewicz

Edgerrin Cooper, shooting through OL’s and making tfls. It’s what he does.  2) Cooper shoots off the edge for a would be sack. Enagbare with a great rush - might have been a sack but Willis fires and Omar Brown jumps it for his second pick of camp.  3) Xavier McKinney beautifully jumps a ball from Love, tips it off and makes the juggling pick. It’s just impossible to throw in his area. He’s on a different level. Meanwhile, Kalen King with a pick six down on the other side. Couldn’t see who was at QB.  4)  Jordan Love with a scramble!!!!! 5) Kenny Clark had the immediate pressure. Rashan Gary immediately shuts down an inside run to Jacobs. Clark in there too. 6) Ty’Ron Hopper flies through a wide receiver screen to break up a play. 7)  Looked like good coverage by Hobbs on Golden but the flag on the ground next to him says otherwise. Golden draws the PI. Doubs gets the best of Hobbs off the LOS and love finds him for a big play over the middle.  8) Ty’Ron Hopper with a tfl in live team drills (tackling). Herman

Ty’Ron Hopper has been everywhere the few practices I’ve been at so far. Really flying around. Certainly seems like he’s settled in to the pro game and is just reacting and making plays. Positive start to his second season.  2)  LVN just ragdolled Doubs on an attempted end around for a big loss. Just threw him to the ground with one hand.  3)  Love just made one of those throws/plays that remind you how special he can be. Had to sidestep the rush of LVN and throw sidearm, not able to step into it at all, and puts a dime on Golden for a ten yard gain on the right sideline. Hell of a play.  {I am more interested in the good play by LVN so I put this under defense. TGR]  Nagler

Twos up — - Heath got by Oladapo, Willis overthrew him by a step. Woulda been 20+ - Willis short completion to Hardman - Brooks run stuffed. Looked like Stackhouse & Sorrell getting props from Coach O.  Eversoll

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Matthew Golden, Mecole Hardman, Keisean Nixon, Savion Williams, Amar Johnson, Israel Abanikanda, a few of the players getting reps on KRs.  Herman

Valentine and Melton remain the top jammer tandem.  [Having been rebuked in the comments, i shall take benign notice of this development.  TGR]  2) Kristian Welch is back as a core four ST player for Rich Bisaccia’s special teams. Trying to state his case for a spot on the 53 again this summer.  Hodkiewicz

MISCELLANEOUS:

Matt said it shouldn’t be difficult to get Matthew Golden and Jayden Reed on the field at the same time (we may or may not have seen that at practice yesterday). Said we could see more Jayden Reed outside or in two WR sets as well depending on the situation.  Herman

LaFleur is straight up pissed at Rasheed Walker about something. Can’t recall ever seeing LaFleur get that upset at a player in camp.  [Rasheed and Brenton Cox got chippy earlier and Walker was seen walking along the sidelines for a while, but LaFleur might be angry about something else?  TGR]  Nagler

Matt LaFleur is absolutely laying into the team after practice. Can only hear bits and pieces from where we’re standing, but he’s not happy.  2) Matt LaFleur is furious at Rasheed Walker. Ordered him to take a lap and threw an expletive in there. Walker did something to Enagbare and got booted. Didn’t see what exactly. Kraft, Rhyan, Tom, Jacobs, Morgan and Jenkins ran the lap with Walker in support.  3) Some clarity on this, despite Rasheed Walker saying he doesn't remember what happened: Walker and Enagbare engaged after the play. Enagbare let go. Walker held on and pulled him to the ground and both hit the deck.  4)  After Matt LaFleur called out Tucker Kraft’s ball security on Tuesday morning, Kraft had a rather interesting response in the locker room after practice. Let’s just say he didn’t agree with his head coach’s critique. Schneidman

After practice, Kraft noted that offensive players aren’t allowed to stiff-arm defensive players, which would have prevented Williams’ strip.

“That’s just a yes-sir, no-sir mentality with Coach at this point,” Kraft said. “You want to obviously keep the ball in the offense’s possession as long as possible. Bus fine in my opinion. Whatever.”  What’s a bus fine?  “Throwing somebody under the bus, which he did just do that to me.”  Huber

Gutekunst on Nate Hobbs' physicality in practice: "We're trying to become a certain kind of football team that can win and win deep into the playoffs." Gutey said that requires physicality and "Nate has that."  Demovsky  [Maybe Rasheed Walker and Brenton Cox have a bit of that?  TGR]

I know it’s only the second padded practice, but I just don’t see how the Packers let Nzsir Stackhouse go. Everyone’s favorite UDFA has shown up consistently. And fills a key role. Eversoll

Aaron Nagler asked LaFleur how he feels after a ton of training camp fumbles.  Nagler

I just realized what Hodkiewicz meant by first team snaps from Elgersma: his previous throws must have all come in various drills or 2-minute drills. Practice has team period, 2-minute drill period, etc.

Trey Hill is having a rough camp so far. Might see some competition brought in. Monk is having another nice camp. I hope he doesn't disappear again.

Matthew Golden is really wowing them. Fast, good hands, smooth. Sounds all good so far.

My friend thinks keeping Belton at tackle is a good idea. I thought he might be more useful in 2025 at guard. It would not be the first time a second round rookie took over a starting guard position. We shall see if they try Belton at guard later.

It looks like there are 2 or 3 open DB positions plus spots on the PS, and it sounds like 4 or 5 guys are doing a lot of positive things.

I see Justis Mosqueda seemed to suggest that Isaiah Simmons was a good bet to make the 53. He may be right but I'd like to see more first, including instincts during a preseason game.

LVN beating Jordan Morgan is a zero sum thing but I am glad to see some life from LVN. Morgan has played LT, LG, RG and some RT if I read it right, so if Rhyan holds onto the starting spot at RG, that might make the former first round pick the Packers backup utility offensive lineman.

We had a Sorrell, Mosby, and Colby Wooden sighting.

I like to hear Love is dialed in. I have been a big critic. He has the weapons with a great running game, a TE that is 10months pregnant and going to burst and a WR corp that challenge all corners of the D. They have improved and not sure the rest of the division can say the same outside of the Bears.

LVN needs to stack success. He did finish the season stronger than he started and needs to prove he deserves that starting spot. They should just call him X-factor. If he and Gary and play like they should the rest of the D has a lot easier job.
