The Packers promoted Ben Braden from the Practice Squad as a Covid Replacement Player.  The inactive players were Kevin King, Heflin, Preston Smith, Vernon Scott and Dennis Kelly.  Jake Hanson and Jordan Love were active but did not play.

The Packers' offensive line met its match against Washington's talented front four.  The line allowed 6 quarterback hits and 3 sacks in the first half.  Montez Sweat had 3 QB hits and a sack plus a forced fumble later, while elite defensive tackle Jonathan Allen had 3 QB hits and 2 sacks.  Some of Washington's success came from stunts and nice defensive calls.  The Packers did adjust in the second half, allowing zero QB hits.  Only Elgton Jenkins allowed no pressures.

The Packers did not seem to even try to run in this game.  In the first half, Jones had carries of 9, 2, and 1.  Hill and Dillon each had one carry for 3 and 2 yards, respectively.  St. Brown contributed a 13 yard carry on a jet sweep and Rodgers scrambled twice for gains of 15 and 2 yards, respectively.  Jones carried the ball 3 more times in the second half for 7 yards.  Dillon carried the ball twice in the second half and gained 2 yards, while Hill carried 2 times in the second half but failed to gain any net yards.  Dillon fumbled twice, losing one.

Fortunately, Aaron Rodgers was sharp in this game, completing 77.15% of his passing attempts, including 19 of 23 attempts in the first half.  Lazard caught five of his six targets for 60 yards on one drive, including a touchdown reception to put the Packers up 14-7.  Lazard led all wide receivers with 51 snaps.  Adams led the team with 6 receptions on 7 targets for 76 yards and a touchdown.  Tonyan got untracked with 63 yards on 4 receptions.  Marcedes Lewis continues to provide enough pass catching ability to go with his blocking: he had 3 receptions on 3 targets for 31 yards.  Cobb and Jones pitched in 22 and 20 yards, respectively.  Aaron Rodgers finished with a passer rating of 127.6.  Rodgers completed 9 of 11 passes with a target depth of 10 yards of more, good for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns, per Pro Football Focus.

The Packers front 7 did a nice job of applying pressure to Heinicke.  Rashan Gary had 7 pressures (per PFF), including 4 QB hits and 2 sacks, one of which was a huge sack/fumble.  He also added 7 tackles (4 solo).  De'Vondre Campbell continues to be a revelation.  He had 13 tackles (10 solo) with four stops, plus two huge forced fumbles.  Campbell caused Heinicke to fumble on the goal line. Adrian Amos had 6 solo tackles and 2 pass breakups.  According to Pro Football Reference, Amos has missed just 2 tackles entering the Washington game, good for a 4.7% missed tackle percentage.  Amos is very good at coming up to limit gains and make the opposing team's offense earn its first downs.  Whitney Mercilus played 31 snaps and definitely showed that he can still rush the quarterback.  Keke had 2 QB hits and 1.5 sacks, plus 6 tackles (4 solo) and a tackle for loss.  Lowry, Clark and Garvin each added a QB hit. 

Washington did rush the ball 29 times for 195 yards, a 6.7-yard average.  Heinicke scrambled 10 times for 95 yards, but that still means the running backs carried the ball 19 times for 100 yards.  In some ways, this game was about big plays on defense.   

Chandon Sullivan had a fine day.  He allowed 3 receptions on 4 targets but for just 17 yards, per PFF.  Rasul Douglas will get dinged for a ticky-tacky pass interference penalty, but he also had a pass breakup and continued his physical style of play, which led to a forced fumble.  Savage also added a pass breakup but missed a tackle which led to an explosive play.  Stokes was active.  He gave up some plays but was around the ball.  Overall, his play has been encouraging and someone had to cover McLaurin.

Bojorquez had three beautiful punts.  He forced two fair catches and the other punt was down around the five yard line or so.  At least one punt seemed far too close to being blocked for my comfort.  Crosby had a field goal blocked due to the low trajectory of the attempt, though there was some penetration allowed.  The punt and kickoff coverage teams had no issues.
