Falcons Sign RB Gartrell Johnson

To replace the injured Jerious Norwood, who landed on injured reserve with a torn ACL, the Atlanta Falcons have signed free agent running back Gartrell Johnson.

Johnson (5-10, 219) was a fourth-round pick (134th overall) out of Colorado State by the San Diego Chargers in 2009. After running for a team-high 184 yards during the pre-season, Johnson was waived one week into the regular season and claimed by the New York Giants. Active for 10 games for New York, Johnson had 13 carries for 43 yards on the season.

The Giants waived Johnson on September 4.

Atlanta has also added rookie running back Shawnbrey McNeal to the practice squad and released linebacker Bear Woods.
