Falcons Waive Derricks, Ortmann

The Atlanta Falcons have waived undrafted rookies safety Gabe Derricks and offensive lineman Mark Ortmann, Jay Adams of AtlantaFalcons.com reports.

Derricks (6-1, 190) played his college ball at San Diego, and spent the OTAs and mini-camp with the Falcons before being waived in June. The Falcons re-signed Derricks on August 15, and he was credited with one special teams tackle during the Falcons' pre-season loss to the New England Patriots four days later.

Ortmann is a 6-6, 295-pound guard/tackle from the University of Michigan, Ortmann started 27 games in college, including 21 at left tackle between 2008-09. Ortmann played through a dislocated elbow in 2008, but answered any questions about his strength by posted 30 reps on the bench press at his pro day.

Originally signed by the Carolina Panthers, Ortmann joined the Falcons on Monday and did not appear in Friday night's pre-season game against the Miami Dolphins.
