Patriots Trade RB Laurence Maroney to the Broncos

The New England Patriots have traded running back Laurence Maroney to the Denver Broncos, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter adds that in addition to Maroney, the Broncos will receive New England's sixth-round pick in 2011, with the Broncos sending a 2011 fourth-round pick to New England.

The 21st overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Maroney (5-11, 220) has run for 2,430 yards and 21 touchdowns in a 45-game career. Maroney has battled injuries throughout his career, making just 14 starts on his NFL resume entering this season.

Signs that Maroney was on the outs in New England surfaced during the pre-season, when a healthy Maroney did not play during the team's second or third pre-season game. Maroney did not dress for the Patriots' 38-24 win over Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels was New England's offensive coordinator from 2006-08.
