Raiders Terminate FB Luke Lawton's Contract

RThe Oakland Raiders have terminated the contract of fullback Luke Lawton, the team announced on Monday.

Suspended for the first two games of the season, a continuation of a four-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drugs in 2009, today was the first day Lawton was eligible to return to the team.

Lawton (6-0, 240) has 13 yards rushing and 17 receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown in 44 career games with the New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and Raiders, who claimed Lawton off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles in August of 2008.

An undrafted free agent from McNeese State, Lawton has also had stints with the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, and Atlanta Falcons.

The Raiders used the "Right of First Refusal" restricted free agent tender on Lawton this off-season, which was scheduled to pay him a $1.101 million base salary.
