Rams Trade DT Adam Carriker to the Redskins

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the St. Louis Rams have traded former first-round defensive tackle Adam Carriker to the Washington Redskins.

As part of the deal, the Redskins and Rams have swapped fifth-round picks, with the Rams moving up 28 places from the 163rd pick (acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles) to the 135th spot.

Carriker, the 13th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, has started 25 of 31 NFL games during his short career, totaling 43 tackles and a pair of quarterback sacks before finishing 2009 on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

At 6-6, 296 pounds and very strong (33 reps in bench press at 2007 Combine), Carriker is ideally-suited to play defensive in a 3-4 defense, which the Redskins are in the process of converting to this off-season. Carriker is signed through the 2011 season with base salaries of $1.07M this season, and $1.42M in 2011, though next year's base salary could increase through Carriker triggering playing-time incentives early in his NFL career.
