Ravens Sign QB Marc Bulger

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Baltimore Ravens have signed free agent quarterback Marc Bulger to a one-year, $3.8 million dollar contract.

Bulger, 33, was released by the St. Louis Rams on April 5.

A sixth-round pick out of West Virginia by the New Orleans Saints in 2000, Bulger spent his first two seasons on practices squads in Atlanta and St. Louis before earning a roster spot with the Rams in 2002.

Bulger replaced an injured Kurt Warner midway through the '02 season, and would go on to start 96 games for the Rams over the next seasons, completing 62.1% of his pass attempts for 22,814 yards, 122 touchdowns and 93 interceptions, compiling a career passer rating of 84.4.

Bulger went to the Pro Bowl after the 2003 and 2006 seasons, and signed a six-year, $65 million dollar contract extension in 2007.

An aging supporting cast, turnover at the head coach and offensive coordinator positions, knee injuries and concussions have hampered Bulger in recent season, prompting him to ask for his release in April.

Bulger, who had been mentioned in connection with the Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears backup jobs after he was released, adds a veteran presence behind Ravens starter Joe Flacco, and will compete with John Beck and Troy Smith for reps during training camp.
