Redskins Release Five Players

The Washington Redskins have released five players, including wide receiver Marko Mitchell, a 2009 seventh-round pick out of Nevada.
Also released were running backs Anthony Alridge and P.J. Hill, wide receiver James Robinson, and defensive lineman Anthony Montgomery, a restricted free agent who had signed his one-year tender.
Mitchell (6-4, 204) led the Redskins in receiving during the 2009 pre-season, catching 11 passes for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns, including hauling in a 33-yard pass from Colt Brennan against the New England Patriots. Mitchell added four receptions for 32 yards in 10 games last season.
Montgomery was a sixth-round pick (153rd overall) out of Minnesota by the Redskins in the 2006 NFL Draft, and the 6-6, 330-pound defensive tackle totaled 78 tackles and 3 quarterback sacks in 42 career games, including 22 starts.
An undrafted free agent from the University of Houston, Alridge entered the NFL with the Denver Broncos, leading the team in rushing during the 2008 pre-season (27 carries for 127 yards), but was injured in the pre-season finale and placed on injured reserve. Waived in February, the Redskins claimed Aldridge, who ran for 46 yards during last year's pre-season. Alridge spent a week on the Houston Texans' practice squad, before being signed to the Redskins' active roster. The 5-9, 185-pound Alridge was waived in Week 7, and re-signed to the Redskins' practice squad in Week 14, where he spent the remainder of the season.
Hill ran for 128 yards and 3 touchdowns last summer for the New Orleans Saints, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Wisconsin last April. Signed off the Saints' practice squad by the Philadelphia Eagles, the Redskins plucked him off the Eagles' practice squad in the final week of the 2009 regular season.
Robinson was signed by the Miami Dolphins last year as an undrafted free agent from Butler County Community College (PA). Robinson caught one pass for 8 yards in the pre-season, and spent the 2009 season on the Dolphins (9 weeks), Cleveland Browns (3 weeks), and Redskins (5 weeks) practice squads.
