Packers' Aaron Jones suffers second sprained MCL at Soldier Field

-- Apparently, Aaron Jones and Soldier Field just don't mix.

The Green Bay Packers' top running back suffered an MCL sprain in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport notes that the injury isn't believed to be serious. He was questionable to return to the game before being ruled out early in the second half.

Jones only ran the ball four times for eight yards before taking himself out of the game and giving way to Jamaal Williams, who shouldered the load for the remainder of the game en route to 16 touches and 97 yards -- not that he had any choice considering he was the only healthy tailback on the Packers' roster.

The team also had Danny Vitale, who functions primarily as a fullback in their offense, but he didn't receive any carries.

Jones suffered the same injury in last year's game against the Bears at Soldier Field; a game that ultimately led to a coming out party for Williams.

With two games left on the Packers' schedule, a road trip to New York to meet with the Jets and then back home against the Detroit Lions for the finale, it's unclear whether or not the Packers will choose to shut down Jones for the rest of the year and preserve him for 2019.

The Packers should make a roster move sometime within the next week. They have Lavon Coleman and Malcolm Johnson on the practice squad, who could be in line for promotions to the active roster if they opt for that route as opposed to free agency.

Agree. Nothing to gain by playing Jones at this point.

I’m not saying they should be dirty but does anyone else wish the Packers could hurt some of their division rivals players like have some head hunting, wood bringing, Brian Dawkins type player out there I mean Rodgers has been taken out by every team in the division.

Football is a rough game and it's a long season and that's why 20 touches per game isn't common. Better to use multiple backs and keep guys healthier. Williams is too good to gather dust on the bench.

Williams finished with 16 touches for 97 yards. That's not bad for a relief effort.

If we had two backs who each got 16 touches for 96 yards we'd have a better offense.

I’m thinking that current front sevens are so stocked with big, fast, agile guys that the 300 carry a year RB is a thing of the past. I remember some kind of sports science show on tv in which they estimated getting hit by Suh is comparable to being run over by a taxi.

Wolf traded John Stephens for him, but he had a bulging disc. I’m surprised that big bully Dr. McKenzie didn’t force him to play.

I remember having E.D. on the team. It was for a very short time. Not long at all.

Never actually played in a game for GB. Wolf traded John Stephens for him unconditionally, so when Eric failed his physical, there was no undoing the trade.
Would have been WILD to see ol’ #29 in green and gold!

I shut down Jones, Clark for sure. Both players have injuries. No point of playing them the final 2 weeks.

Look forward to the new HC bringing in a new strength & conditioning staff that can hopefully keep players healthier. Contact injuries cannot be prevented, but muscle strains & pulls can be.
