Packers, Bulaga Close on a Deal

Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports the Green Bay Packers are close on a contract with first-round offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga.

"There’s a decent chance the Green Bay Packers will have all of their draft picks in the fold in time for the first training camp practice on Saturday at 2 p.m.

With only first-round draft pick Bryan Bulaga yet to be signed, chief negotiator Russ Ball has been able to devote all of his time this week to getting that deal done."

Packers' rookies and veterans report to training camp on Thursday, and as Demovsky notes, the first on-field practice of the summer is scheduled for Saturday.

The Packers have around $1.3 million remaining on their rookie pool.

Bulaga is expected to begin his NFL career as a back-up behind veteran starters Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher, but given their ages and medical histories, and Bulaga's immense talent, the former Iowa Hawkeye will be in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.
