Post Snap Panic: How Jonathon Gannon’s 3 Safety looks will create a sack party

Eddie Petzke from the Beers and Ball Show takes a deep dive into the three safety looks that transformed the Arizona Cardinals defense midway through last season and explores how Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon could bring that same philosophy to Green Bay.

I’m on the parade float that “Gannon is an excellent D-Coord.”
I’m excited what he will scheme with McKinney, Cooper, Hargrave, et al (plus Parsons when he returns).
I was one of the few Packer fans who did not rave about Hafely.
Go Packers!!!

I agree with you about Hafley. He was a media darling but if you look at it closely, he didn't have answers when questions flew.
In the five straight losses at the end, if the defense was lock down the Packers would have won most of them. The game against the Ravens was a pure, embarrassing defeat of the defense.
Lets give Gannon a shot. He'll have more talent to work with than in Arizona, though he did have a couple of studs.

"In the five straight losses at the end, if the defense was lock down the Packers would have won most of them. "

Hafley's issues started earlier than that.

Whatever Hafley did, he won't be a threat to the league this season. Between #1 teaching the room and JG utilizing our best 5 pass rushers without #1, the first 4+ games before his return will tell us a lot about what JG can do right away in GB. It's difficult to see how that could be a fair evaluation if he fails, but other possibilities do exist. A real opportunity for everyone to step up, with only Nyjalik Kelly figuring to be held in reserve.

If our pass rush doesn't go well it's hard to imagine any secondary saving the day. Zaire Franklin as the on field general has a lot riding on him too, including teaching Cooper how that's done. I'm still left wondering how Quay might have played without the green dot? I'll be interested to see how he does in Vegas.

Hopper is another of our mystery players, entering his third year and we've almost never seen him. Hopefully he's good even if he's not needed much until next year? Adding to our LB seems like an obvious priority in the next draft.

Van Ness & all the young pass rushers, Hopper, Lloyd, Morgan, Banks, Rhyan, Oliver, Williams, Golden, Kraft, Parsons, Toms etc etc are all question marks for various reasons. Injuries, can't find their way to playing time, rookies, we have a lot of uncertainty right now. Add in the Josh Jacobs situation and before that not having a #2 RB makes for a potential mess to try to run the ball.

The Pass Rusher problem with Parsons missing the first half of the season is a huge problem for Gannon. Add in inheriting a below average CB room that has a new FA acquisition and 2 new rookies, so a basic reset/rebuild taking place there. He has his work cut out for him, hopefully the 2 FA vets, Hargrave & Franklin hit the ground running. But we need to take 1 thing off his plate by signing Clowney for immediate insurance and actual NFL production he can count on. Gutey, $hit or get off the pot, the Edge position group is weak, fix it for cheap.
