Clausen to Start For Panthers

Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox has named rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen the starter for this Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Darin Gantt of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Clausen steps in for starter Matt Moore, who was placed on injured reserve with an injured shoulder.

The 48th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, Clausen has started three of six games this season, completing 46.8% of his 1009 pass attempts for 501 yards with a touchdown and 4 interceptions.

Carolina travels to Tampa on Sunday. One of Clausen's starts was in the Superdome, with Clausen completing 11-of-21 pass attempts for 146 yards and his lone touchdown pass, posting a 90.6 passer rating in the Panthers' 16-14 loss.

Fox's decision was between Clausen and 2010 sixth-round pick Tony Pike, who completed 6-of-12 pass attempts for 47 yards in mop-up duty during last week's 34-3 loss to New Orleans. The Panthers are expected to add a veteran quarterback prior to Sunday's game.
