Jets Guarantee Money to a Cornerback

The New York Jets recently re-worked the contract of restricted free agent cornerback Drew Coleman, Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger reports.

Coleman was tendered at the "Original Round" level, and was scheduled to earn $1.176 million in base salary this season. Until the day before the 2010 season-opener, that sum was not guaranteed, which could have jeopardized the back-up cornerback's spot on the 53-man roster.

Vrentas reports that Coleman will receive a reduced sum of $850,000, all of which is guaranteed. According to NFLPA records, Coleman has a $630,000 base salary for the upcoming season.

A sixth-round pick (189th overall) out of TCU in 2006, Coleman has started 5 of his 51 games for Gang Green, totaling 77 tackles, 2 quarterback sacks, one interception and 14 pass breakups. 21 of Coleman's tackles have come on special teams
