Patriots to Sign CB Tony Carter Off Practice Squad

The New England Patriots will sign defensive back Tony Carter off the practice squad, Josina Anderson of FOX-31 in Denver reports.

A first-year player from Florida State, Carter (5-9, 175) appeared in two games, including one start, for the 2009 Denver Broncos, totaling three tackles and a pass defensed.

New England has not announced this transaction, nor have they announced the corresponding transaction necessary to add Carter to the 53-man roster.

The Patriots placed cornerback Jonathan Wilhite on injured reserve earlier this week, and starting cornerbacks Devin McCourty (questionable, rib) and Kyle Arrington (probable, elbow) are banged up.

Cornerback Darius Butler (thigh) was added to the Patriots' injury report on Friday. Butler is "probable" for Sunday's nights game against the Green Bay Packers.
